Professor Yulia Kovas is an interdisciplinary expert, author of over 200 scientific journal articles, 2 books and many book chapters. She has edited scientific volumes, and acts as associate editor for 3 international journals, as well as reviewer for over 40 academic journals. Yulia has taught in top international universities, including for many years at University of London (King’s College, Goldsmiths) and NYU. She has also worked with clients from Shell, Linklaters and Alliance, British Petroleum, Allen and Overy, Frere Cholmeley Bischoff, Schroders and other companies. She has directed international research laboratories and large-scale research projects. Her main areas of expertise are Education (individual differences, personalised education, learning problems, talent); and genomics (gene-environment interplay; personalised genomics; implications of genetic science). Yulia has taught in many language, socio-economic and cultural environments. For example, she has delivered teaching and training all over Europe, South and North America, China, Japan, Indonesia, Scandinavian countries, and Sri Lanka. She has taught people in the most disadvantaged contexts and people in the most prestigious educational and occupational contexts. She has taught people with special needs, including those with learning disabilities and those in the extraordinary range of ability and talent. Professor Yulia Kovas’ research career has also been dedicated to education – understanding how people learn, why they differ in learning, and how to adapt educational environments to different people’s needs. She has published more than 150 papers, chapters and books on education. Using experimental psychology, cross-cultural psychology, neuroscience, behavioural genetics and other methods, this research investigated many aspects of education, including: cognition – memory, language, mathematical and spatial reasoning, executive functions and other processes; emotion – social, mathematical, test and other types of anxiety; and methods of personalising education. Genomic Services

Professor Yulia Kovas co-leads our Genomics, Business and Law services. Her focus is on helping clients make decisions about undergoing any kind of genetic testing, as well as with interpreting genetic information. Yulia also provides one-to one and group workshops on essential aspects of genetics and genomics.

Yulia Kovas is Professor of Genetics & Psychology. Her research explores how our DNA and our Environments work together to influence our mind, body and behaviour; how they contribute to similarities and differences among people.

She has a PhD in behavioural genetics and MSc in Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry, as well as degrees in Psychology and Philology. She has published over 100 papers, books and chapters in Behavioural Genetics and in implications of genetic research for people and societies. She has taught genetics to psychologists, educationalists, lawyers, creative professionals, and many other groups; and given hundreds of talks all over the world. Her work is also dedicated to ensuring that genetic advances are used beneficially. This can only be achieved if consumers of gene-based products and services know how to evaluate them.
